Credit Crunch, What Credit Crunch

Did you know that online spending in the UK hit £4.5bn in May 2008, an increase of 1.6 per cent on April 2008, according to the latest IMRG Capgemini e-Retail Sales Index. This is an year on year 30% increase and averages £73 spend by every person in the UK.

We have been hearing recently about the credit crunch but here at A Pondlife Limited we have seen an increase in our new customers during the first half of this year. This might show that although the high street is suffering, many Norwich and Norfolk based companies are fighting back and using online marketing and internet marketing solutions as a way of attracting new business.

A recent article which i read states that one in five pounds spent in the UK is spend with an online retailer. This only goes to show the power of online marketing and the amount of business that is in cyber space. Who could have predicted these figures a few years ago? but one thing is for sure these figures will only rise and whilst offline marketing still has a place for branding, online marketing is the new and smarter money maker.

1. Optimise Your Title For Maximum Search Engine Results

A page tag is something that you CAN control and is very important to get the right for search engines to rank your website. How best to format the page tag has many different theories. Many of these theories have been tested for years including key word stuffing, using commas and dashes etc but we have found that by picking the top keywords and then running it through one of our keyword tools we can find out geographic data and a number of quiries that we can use to establish what our title tag is going to be. We continue to use the keyword tool until we have 4 or 5 key word phrases. It is important to bare in mind what your webpage is about and use google tools to see what key phrases people are using to obtain your information.

One thing which we look out for is keyword weight and so sometimes we use 'buffer words' to control this. For example we may have a webpage called 'pink cars' then we create the next page as 'find pink cars' and the next 'find pink cars in norwich' This is called longtail!

Over the past few years we have noticed that people are searching for longer and longer key phrases then ever before. Some searches are even up to 7 or 8 words now so it is important for you to think about phrases rather then just keywords.

The final tip in title tags is when you are building the rest of your sites content you will have unique but relevant text to use in the link.
