Top Website Design Tips For Norwich & Norfolk

As a leading Norfolk website design company APL have a long tradition of creating quality websites that both look great but also rank highly on all the major search engines like Google, Yahoo & MSN. Many of our clients ask us how we achieve this and so we have but together a brief post to help Norfolk companies design better websites.

1. Know why you are building your website.

When building a website you must first be very clear as to why you are building it, what you want people to find out from it and how you want it to be marketed. For instance if your website is going to promote Norwich as a great Norfolk city, would a blog not be better as you can edit it quickly and very easily. There are a number of FREE websites you can use like blogger & word press.

If you are building a website for a Norwich Furniture Store you will need an eCommerce solution with a shopping cart to Paypal. This means you can sell your products or services online through your website.

Making sure you understand your goals and ambitions for your website is the most important part of your website design.

2. Create a website design that looks great but works well on search engines.

It is important that your web design reflects the fact that a website is only any good if it is driving traffic from search engines and therefore increasing business. Many website which we see look fantastic but the coding is very messy and therefore not search engine friendly at all.

A website should ideally not be built in Flash as search engines can not read flash files. There should be plenty of quality content and both inbound and relevant links.

3. Use W3c World Wide Web Consortium guidelines and validate it.

When building a website you should us the World Wide Web Consortium guidelines and make sure the website validates. This is a standard set of guidelines which all websites should be built using. This will also help towards achieve good search engine ranking results.

4. Use clean navigation

Navigation of links on your site plays a big role in determining how long your visitor stays and explores your site. There are a number of factors when deciding this like; What do visitors do as soon as they open your site? They would probably read the content of the present page and then look around to find any other page that interests them.

5. The Cleaner The Better – Website Layout

A clean layout that uses a lot of white space enhances a site's looks. Try to keep the focus on your content. Use fonts that will be available on all computers to prevent your site looking messed up.

6. Everyone must be able to see your website

A site that is easy-to-use always encourages visitors to stay and read your content. For websites with long pages of content this is very crucial as the amount of scrolling required is reduced. Suppose your site doesn't look good for a particular resolution it is very probable that the visitor will close the browser window feeling that the web page is not for their viewing. Designing stretch layouts that fit any screen resolution ensures that you know all your visitors see a visually appealing and professional site.

5 Top Simple SEO Tips To Improve Your Search Engine Rankings

SEO is not something that can be done over night, it takes a lot of time and work however done correctly the benefits can be enormous. At A Pondlife Limited we achieve high search engine rankings by using these simple 5 SEO tips together with more advance search engine optimisation and want to share them with our fellow citizens in Norwich & Norfolk.

The internet is a great resource for information but like everything there is also a lot of rubbish regarding SEO. Unless your website or blog is targeting a extremely competitive area you can, with time and effort achieve a good search engine ranking by following these basic tips.

1. Get the right keyword and key phrases and place them in your headlines

There are a number of resources you can use to find out what people will use when searching for information, products and services which you and your website can provide. A free tool which we often use is Google Keyword Tool.

What you think people are typing in when searching on major search engines is not necessarily what they are using so don’t take it for granted and research your key phases in depth.

It is important to use key phrases in your headlines and title tags. Most blogging software will make sure this headline is also in the title tag and if you have one of our website design centre websites you can do this by clicking on the page settings and then meta data tab.

You should also make sure that your key phrase is mentioned at least once in the main content of you website at the top of the page.

2. Provide relevant and useful content to your visitors.

Our biggest tip on search engine optimisation is that you need to provide high quality, relevant and useful information in the content of your website.

If you have a blog, you should post at least one new post a week although we recommend two to three times a week. Don’t publish information unless it is relevant as it is better to have high quality content then a load of non relevant information.

You should also try to add more pages frequently, the chances of people finding your website through major search engines will increase as every page will have a different keyword phrase.

3. Link to relevant websites

You should include a resources section to your website but be careful not to put a large link collection on it. Again SEO is about providing people with relevant information and therefore you should only link to website which are relevant to you.

You may also, by linking to other relevant website find that they link back to you. This is important, as incoming links from high quality sites will give you a big boost in search engine rankings given time.

4. Write reviews about websites that you like.

You should write reviews about website which you have found and like. Make them honest and useful. This will help readers and also the site owners of the website which you are reviewing may be keen to give you a link.

5. Use Google Analytics

So how are you going to find out if all your hard work on SEO has paid off? Well Google Analytics is a free tool, which will monitor your success and inform you about your websites traffic. More importantly it will inform you about pages which are not working and help you with providing information about search phrases and other useful information

In Conclusion

There are a number of factors which help towards SEO and we have only provide a few simple tips on this blogg. Your time and effort will pay off so keep going!
